The awards are intended to recognise individuals whose contribution to cyber security has been meritorious over the years, honouring all those individuals whose efforts have been more than beneficial to the cyber security community. The nomination period opens every year with the EuskalHack Security Congress held in Donostia - San Sebastián (Basque Country), and at the end of the congress, an award is given to the person whose contribution is considered to be the most significant.
It is a tradition in the Basque Country to crown the head of the winner in competitions with a "Txapela", a prized trophy for champions, a cultural icon and a sign of identity of the Basques.
Public recognition by the cybersecurity community at an award ceremony during the EuskalHack Security Congress, with the opportunity to give a short speech and sign the winners' book.
The annual CyberSecurity Award is a distinguished transparent engraved award with the EuskalHack logo surrounded by a triumphal crown, carried in a case with a magnet closure and blue satin interior.
